Is Mediocrity Serving You?

Let's talk about mediocrity. Last week I posted an amazingly written article about being mediocre (you can find the article on my FB page). I loved it! However, upon learning the definition of mediocre, I felt compelled to talk about it.

The definition of mediocre according to Merriam-Webster: of moderate or low quality, value, ability, or performance :ordinary, so-so.

Let me explain a bit further. The article was really good! It was about being ok with being mediocre. I guess when I read it I assumed the author was referring to simplicity and contentment in life. Which, by the way, I strive to achieve. However, being mediocre? Maybe it's just me but I don't think we should strive to be "low quality or value." Do you?

Let's take it a bit further. What are we on this earth to do? Don't worry, I won't turn this into an article of self-revelation or anything like that. ;-) But seriously, what are your goals for your career, family, and personal growth? Do you have goals? I hope so because if you aren't moving forward you are moving backwards. Life is about being the best versions of ourselves but most of all about loving others and serving others! Can we adequately serve others if we are of low quality or value? I don't know about you but I want to be better than that!

I'm not talking about more money, a bigger house, or nicer material things. I'm talking about leaving a legacy. What do you want your kids, grandkids, family, and friends to say about you when you are gone? Don't you want to leave a mark on the world? I do! I want people to remember how I made them feel. I want to be more, do more, and give more! I'm not convinced that mediocrity is the way to achieve this. I don't want my kids to strive to be mediocre in life! I want them to be wonderful human beings who know how to love on people and want to serve and give to others.

Again, I loved the article and it really inspired me to be content. But I don't want to be mediocre. I want to make a difference!

Love you all!

D
